Georgetown High School Interact Club Honors Sponsor
The Georgetown High School Interact Club recently honored school sponsor Eleene Carr with a Paul Harris award at the annual Georgetown Rotary Paul Harris recognition luncheon.
The club has plans to volunteer at the Special Olympics on April 27-28 to help make the event successful. They will also sell desserts at the Rotary Partners in Education BBQ as a fundraiser. The funds are being saved for a trip to Mexico for some members and to make a donation to a hospital there. Senior girl T-shirts have also been sold as a fund raiser.
During this school year, members have collected food for the Caring Place in their annual Trick or Treat for cans activity. They also volunteered at the Rotary Breakfast for Santa.
Interact members are looking for potential RYLA candidates and hope to nominate prospective students.

Lake Travis Interact Club Completes Coin Drive
The Lake Travis High School Interact completed a coin drive to benefit Heifer International. The club raised almost $1,400. A check will go to the Lakeway/Lake Travis Rotary Foundation so funds will be triple matched to benefit the ongoing Pune, India project.

District 5870 invites all Interact sponsors, advisers (Club & School) and Interactors, to participate in the District Assembly, Saturday, April 21, at Central Texas College, Killeen, Texas. This will be a great opportunity for us to meet as a special group to share ideas, projects, problems, questions, answers and proposals for making and keeping our District Interact Clubs active and promoting new Interacts. We will discuss feasibility of developing clusters geographically within our District and formulating the relationship wanted with the District Interact Chair. Any additional suggestions you might have will be absolutely welcomed and encouraged!
DISTRICT ASSEMBLY AGENDA will be forwarded to you this week!
Governor Elect, Barry Curlee, has given us a meeting room during this District Assembly and we will meet (open meeting to attendees) in break out session 1, 9:40---10:50. Think this is an excellent opportunity to make Interact a viable and important part of our District Rotary and provide an opportunity for our Club Sponsors and Club and School Advisers and any Interactors to meet each other and to share their good works, good ideas and successful "service for others" projects.
This is a "first for Interact" and only will be successful if YOU are willing to participate!
Please let me know if you can attend and any suggestions/comments you might have regarding this District Assembly session…Sheila…pinoak@glade.net and/or Barry Curlee….bcurlee@austin.rr.com
THANKS!
Sheila

District 5870 Interact Clubs
DISTRICT 5870 Interact Clubs now number 23 with Austin Lakeline preparing to sponsor an Interact club and become our 24th RI Chartered Interact Club.
Taking to heart, President William Boyd’s theme for 2006-07, ‘LEAD THE WAY’, District 5870 Interact’s are encouraging their fellow Rotarian Clubs, not having Interact clubs, to consider sponsoring their own Interact Clubs.
Easy steps to follow: 1) Log on to www.rotary.org and go to RI Programs and click Interact 2) view the indispensable Interact Handbook, resources, projects, application forms, brochures; a complete How To, A to Z; all ready to download!
An added incentive in fulfilling Rotary’s, “Lead the Way and “Service for Others”, are TWO intriguing options available for setting up Rotary Interact Clubs. First is Community Based Interacts, which can be discussed with Mike Buls of the Austin Club who is adviser to their community based Interact and Alternative High School based Interact Clubs which can be discussed by Delores Sims of Temple Rotary Club.
Many of our high schools have an alternative school and would be a good fit for Rotary, for the above reasons and certainly to instill the Four Way Test as life goals. It offers a wonderful opportunity for Rotary to project their commitment to Community Service into this challenging high school youth program. Please give serious consideration to making Interact a part of YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE!
All District 5870 Interact Clubs are willing and ready to help any Rotary Club who might have an interest in Interact sponsorship! Call your closest Interact Club Adviser and get a helping hand. Please do not hesitate to contact our District 5870 Interact Chair Sheila Higgins at the address shown above.
